This has become a hot topic in our office, as the answer can mean the difference between a simple copay or medical deductibles, specialist copays, etc.  The answer, though, most often comes down to a few simple rules:  (1) If the reason for your visit is a medical complaint, or if the doctor is evaluating and following a medical condition, then medical insurance would be billed for your visit.  (2) If your reason for visit is to get new glasses or contact lenses and the doctor sees no medical history that needs to be evaluated or managed, then Routine Vision Benefits can be utilized.

Of course, there can occasionally be circumstances that deviate from the rules above.  But in all cases, our office will strive to inform you of costs and insurance benefits for any visit prior to you seeing the doctor.
